In the age of DVRs and iTunes downloads, it was only logical that the Olympics would follow suit and bring the action to everyone in a manner in which it hasn't before. As the Olympics approaches, the amount of apps that allow you to keep up to the minute with the events going on has increased presence in the app store. Sifting through which apps are worth downloading quite frankly can cause the most technology savvy to get a headache. Below are the apps that any Olympic fan should have loaded onto their iPad or iPhone before the opening ceremony. NBC OLYMPICS
NBC has rolled out two separate apps for the Olympics. The first, NBC Olympics, is really for keeping up to date on highlights and tidbits of the sports and players involved in the Olympics. There is no streaming on this app, but its great for learning facts about your favorite athletes. It also has a tab with information on Team USA. Really this app is geared for anyone who just wants to look up information on what happened throughout the day or if they want to read what events Ryan Lochte is swimming.
NBC LIVE EXTRA
If you could only download one app for the Olympics, this is it. NBC's Live Extra brings you streaming of any event live if you are a cable subscriber. Basically if there is a camera filming something at the events, you can watch on your device. While it does require a cable subscription (which many of you already do) the app itself is free. Just requires a quick login to you account and you're in. Within the app there are highlights of the day as well as the schedule of events. A neat feature is that you can have the app remind you 15 minutes before an event starts so you can watch live.
LONDON 2012 RESULTS
The official app of the Olympics brings you up to the minute results and medal counts. As well as the other apps, a schedule, highlights and athlete bios are included in this app. What really makes this app special is its 'My Games' tab. In this tab you select your preferred country (the NBC apps only primarily focused on USA) and bring you news and reminders of when your country is competing.
REUTERS OLYMPICS LONDON 2012
Reuters Olympics London 2012 app is the go-to source for amazing photographs of the Olympic Games. If you're looking for any other app that brings you the amazing skills of Reuter photographers you simple won't find it. Pictures are posted as they are uploaded onto the 'wire.' Say you found that amazing finish line photo of your favorite 200m dash runner, Reuter's social tab will allow you to share the photo to you Facebook and Twitter with a comment in the matter of a few clicks.
