The best thing that could have ever happened to me was Larry Flick blocking me on Twitter. Larry Flick, @LarryFlick, is a personality on SiriusXM on OutQ Ch 108.

This morning he had on Jordan Bach, @JordanBach and www.thebachbook.com, on during his Friday Disco morning show. Things started off fine at the beginning if the 10am hour with Jordan talking about his website and his way of trying to help out others through his blog and twitter. Some way or another things went down an awkward path. Who knows what was said behind the scenes during a musical break but it seemed like a switch was flipped on the tone of the conversation. Flick began to belittle Bachs views and disregard what he had to say with seemingly no prior reason to become hostile. The argument that Flick was presenting was that with his age and wisdom he knows better than Bach and thus Bach is "naive and too young" to comprehend. Flick went on to say that the gay community is in fact not a community but rather just a population with just "liking dick" as the common factor and saying that he KNOWS there is nothing in common with Bach without even knowing him. Flick continued to mock Bach on air and even well after the segment was over. Saying along the lines of "I would have never booked him...he just showed up." What should have been an hour of Bach promoting hiswebsite and positive energy became a negative dialogue. Instead of the uplifting message that should have arisen from this interview it became a twisted barrage of Flick stating how he "carries all the people who have died" on his shoulders and the youth will never understand.

The problem with Flick and his argument, is that rather than unify people, he was choosing to divide. In a time where we have franchised food chains, Republican nominees for senate and Christian fundamentalists fighting against us, why are we choosing to fight between us? He was bringing about a divide based on age. While indeed our elders have been through horrifying things in the past few decades, it is a bit unfair to say that anyone younger can not have a thoughtful comprehension view on issues. We may not have gone through the craziness that the AIDS epidemic in the 80s but are we supposed to sit back and have our thoughts marginalized because of it? Have our views been brought down to the year of our birth?

The problem of divide doesn't only happen on air, but throughout social media. We, as a community, are bringing each other down and are mocking one another. We are creating a negative environment and we are doing this to ourselves.

It doesn't matter if we are old, wise and have seen brothers and sisters die, or if we're 25 with a website, we should be on the same team. We can have our different colors and views and idealism fly under the same flag. We should create open discussions that showcase our different views, but we should never put someone else down for not having their views in line with our own. So I ask of Mr. Larry Flint and people as a whole, to think when we discard others thoughts and go down the route of humiliation to realize that the other person is a human being, and as a whole collective we should be unified. Instead of blocking me and others who may be in fact too young to understand all facets of life Mr. Flint, share your knowledge and wisdom and use your public personality for love and not hate. Unify don't divide.
