If you google "How many magazines does the average person subscribe to" the first thing you read is "more than they actually read." Magazine sales amount to 4.5 billion dollars per year. With the growing market of tablets and the ease in which magazines are being distributed, magazine companies are only going to gain more subscribers each year. I know personally I have six physical magazines delivered to me on top of the eight that I have digital subscriptions to. It was only a matter of time until someone tapped into this growing market. Next Issue is the new app that brings to you a Netflix type of subscription account that gives you unlimited access to its select group of magazines that they have available. There are two tiers of subscription that Next Issue provides. The difference between the $9.99 and the $14.99 plans is that the later gives you access to the weekly magazines like People and Time.
Traditionally a magazine subscription costs you about $20 per magazine per year. If you're like me and have multiple magazines, then were talking about over $100 in magazine costs yearly. For $9.99 I'd get access to more than just one magazine. What's cool about Next Issue is that you can pick and choose which magazines you want on your iPad. You basically customize your magazine subscriptions. While right now a bulk of the magazines available are Conde Nast, I bet as the amount of subscribers grow, so will the selection.
While Next Issue isn't really reinventing the online magazine subscription idea, as Apple has had Newsstand for a while now, what they really are bringing to the table is eliminating the need to pay for each and every magazine you get. You get the typical online experience you would get with Newsstand, online video exclusive content, extra pictures on editorials, and fun animations. They will even email you any time there's a new issue. What's even more great is for the first 30 days you can get a free subscription to try the app out. You can find find Next Issue on the App store link and through www.nextissue.com
