Recently I decided to watch the classic 1980 film, American Gigolo. With Fifty Shades of Grey less than a month away, I was interested in watching some films that mirrored Fifty's controversial sex-themes. I did not expect though as I began to watch the film that I would be captivated by the clothes worn by Richard Gere throughout the film.
Even though a lot of people cringe at the thought of 80's fashion, I kind of admire the fashion forward stance that American Gigolo had. Giorgio Armani himself helped create the iconic menswear looks seen throughout the film. I think we can all take a page from Gere's looks in the film & elevate our style, regardless of our profession.
A lot of the looks seen throughout the film could very well be thanked for being inspiration for the retro look & style we have today. From unstructured suit jackets, khaki pants, to knit ties, a lot of the fashion seen in the film is very much popular today. Gere looks effortless throughout the film, that is one style adjective I know I personally like to emulate. If I could pick one item from the film to steal, it would definitely be Gere's round glasses.
So what do you think of this Fashion Flashback? Are there any films you personally love with some wicked style? Let me know!
