Winter Jacket Style Picks

It's hard to stay looking good underneath the many layers that are needed to keep us warm during the winter months. A friend once asked me "Gabe, how do you suggest one can stay looking stylish and good while wearing possibly every article of clothing I own in order not to freeze outside?" My answer, pick a great durable utility jacket that functions not only as a jacket to keep you warm but also a stylish piece that will look great no matter what the temperature reads outside.

My following three picks are a few of my favorite styles of winter jackets out right now. They're not your typical puffy down jacket that your mother used to send you out the door for school, they're stylish with unique details which set them apart from all the other jackets out there. With the use of many buttons and buckles these three jackets hit the mark on the military trend that has been big over the last few seasons. The trend is so big that Authentic Apparel Group created a US Army Apparel collection in collaboration with the US Army, their Airborne Army Coat pictured below is one of my favorites to grab out the door. Another brand I love right now is Woolrich John Rich & Bros. who created the Arctic Parka picked out here in this post. For a bit more of a polished and work friendly look, there is this Baracuta Blue Label Trench Coat from their Fall/Winter 2014 collection that made its debut at Milano Moda Uomo last week. Beat the cold and look great wearing any of these three picks.

Leather + Wool Jacket Trend

Add some edge to your fall wardrobe with some leather and wool. Both materials are staples for the cold fall air that is swiftly sweeping the US right now. The wool and leather combo make for a perfect fit in black, adding a biker vibe to any outfit. Not only does this combo look good, but it also ensures you stay warm as the cooler weather approaches. The following three picks are perfect examples on how to rock the Wool + Leather trend. The following three brands reimagined the look in their own particular way. My personal favorite of the tree picks, the Canadian brand Mackage's Sinclair Biker jacket. The jacket comes with two great looks in one, allowing you to remove the down nylon arms for a sleeveless vest look.

Outerwear Trends for Fall 2013

Fall is hands down my favorite season. Not only does the weather begin to cool down, but we get to bust out our favorite jackets and scarves and play around with layers. Creating the perfect fall look is as easy as starting with a great jacket or sweater to which your whole outfit will revolve around. Think of your jacket as the most important fall piece in your wardrobe to dress up or down for any occasion.

It's hard to not feel stylish wearing a leather jacket, preferably one that is cut in a biker style. This Ferragamo green leather/suede jacket combines two of the biggest trends of the moment. While the traditional black leather jacket has been emulated time and time again, Ferragamo adds their distinctive touch of sophistication by making it in a green hue and adding suede to reinvent the biker style.

Michael Bastian is king of adding edge to the traditional preppy style. This cardigan is the perfect example of how Bastian adds touches to his timeless pieces that make you stand out from the pack. The wolves knit into this cardigan send the message loud and clear, this isn't something gramps would knit and put under your Christmas tree.

As seen in many designers collections, paneled leather is big this year. Think of paneled leather jackets as the little brother to the full on motorcycle jacket, it has the cool factor that a leather jacket has, but with a bit more of a collegiate and everyday look that makes it a go-to staple in the fall months. Gap has constructed this greatvarsity jacket with leather sleeves and the traditional ribbed collars and hems to recreate this school look. This jacket is light enough to wear in the first few weeks of fall or pair with a scarf to bundle up as the temperatures drop even further approaching winter.

Milan FW Trends, How You Can Wear Them

With Milan's Men’s Fashion Week drawn to a close last week, this post is dedicated to the three trends seen on the runways for Spring/Summer 2014. While SS14 may be a year away, with most if not all the pieces shown on the runway not yet available, steal the looks from the three biggest trends right now.

Florals

Florals Trend From Gucci to Prada, florals were a big trend at MFW. From large-scale to a touch in accessories, floral prints were everywhere throughout the collections shown. Taking a cue from Eastern culture, Prada included florals in floral print shirts and hibiscus adorned suitcases. Copy this look with a Libertine-Libertine Shirt with Palm Tree prints.

Monochromatic

Monochromatic If year was all about shades of grey, this year it’s about wearing varying shades of a monochromatic color. Calvin Klein, Bottega Veneta and Zegna displayed looks in head to toe color schemes based on a single unifying color. Pair a different hued blue shirt, like this Lacoste Linen Shirt, on top of some jeans you already own and rock your own version of the monochromatic trend.

Bermuda Shorts

Bermuda If Massimiliano Giometti's SS14 Salvatore Ferragamo show has any indication of the trend for shorts next season, is that Bermuda shorts are making its way back to the sartorial savvy. Straying away of the tight and shorter cuts as of late, many shows featured shorts with a well-tailored and looser fit. Keep cool this summer and slip into these similar Topman Blue Flecked Suit Shorts.
